When you register a domain name, you are required to supply a valid street address, email account and phone number as per the policy approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. This information, though, is not kept only by the registrar company, but is visible to the general public on WHOIS check sites as well, so anyone can view your info and some people may not be comfortable with this. As a result, many companies have come up with the so-called Whois Privacy Protection service, which hides the domain name registrant’s details and upon a WHOIS check, people will see the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s. This service is also popular as Privacy Protection or Whois Privacy Protection, but all these expressions refer to the very same service. At the moment, most of the Top-Level Domains around the globe allow Whois Privacy Protection to be enabled, but there are still country-specific extensions that do not support this option.
